This St Joseph maternity session was nothing short of breathtaking. Madeline had a clear vision and knew exactly what she wanted. Her inspiration photo was this gorgeous western set, surrounded by snowfall. I immediately knew we had to make it happen.
Once we decided to go for the western-in-the-winter vibe, I kept Madeline on my snow list. As soon as the perfect snowy day arrived, we scheduled the session.
Madeline’s inspiration photo was of a mom wearing a velvet skirt paired with some lace. A very classic western vibes, with the teal and golden-brown tones. It was beautifully styled. Now, we might not have the mountain backdrops here in Missouri, but the location we picked had some rolling hills and natural wood elements, which really helped bring that country feel to the session. It was perfect.
What made it even better was that everything Madeline wanted, we were able to pull together using pieces from the client closet. I had a velvet skirt, which was actually pink, but with some photoshop magic it turned out stunning and perfect. She loved the idea of lace, and while I didn’t have just a lace top, I had a gorgeous lace maternity dress. We slipped the skirt right over the dress, adding extra layers to keep her warm while still giving her that lace look she wanted. It all came together beautifully.
I was so excited because I had just picked up a few new dresses that fit perfectly with those rich western colors—deep teals, rusty oranges, and browns. There was one in particular, a beautiful rusty red dress, that had incredible texture and even a little sparkle. The color complemented her hair and skin tone so well. As soon as she tried it on, it was love at first sight.
For a little extra variety, we decided to do a simple, clean set with a darker, fitted gown. The black off-the-shoulder maternity gown really highlighted her baby bump in a way that was both elegant and classic. It added just the right amount of contrast while keeping everything on theme.
In the end, this St Joseph maternity session gave us so much variety without ever feeling overdone. It was exactly what Madeline had envisioned, and I couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out. With the outfits from the client closet Madeline was able to find accessories to bring it all together.
Madeline and Wyatt were thrilled with the photos, and if you loved this session as much as I did, you’ll definitely want to check out the newborn session that followed. We carried the western theme through in the sweetest, most subtle ways, while adding a few personal touches along the way. Check out that story next!
