Let me tell you about the Grant family session, one of my absolute favorites. I’ve been lucky enough to work with this beautiful family since Miss Ellie was born. I still remember when they told me her name—Elowyn. I instantly fell in love with that unique, adorable name! Over the years, I’ve come across so many baby names in my studio, but Elowyn is just too cute and fitting!
Fast forward a year from her newborn session, and here she is, already one year old with that gorgeous red hair—and the sweetest personality to match! She’s confident, joyful, and full of energy, which isn’t surprising when you meet her two wonderful parents. They are equally full of joy, and it’s always a pleasure to work with them.
For this family session, we started with an in-person planning appointment. I love when we can plan things out face-to-face. It helps me tailor the session to exactly what a family wants—even if they aren’t entirely sure at first. We talked about a few outdoor locations, and I was thrilled when they decided on the flower farm – Homeplace Fields. It’s one of my favorite St Joe gems. Mom ordered a flower crown for the session and it turned out beautiful!
When it came to outfits, Mom found a stunning dress in the client closet—simple yet elegant, with beautiful texture and movement. Miss Ellie already had the perfect outfit at home, and Dad already had the perfect brown jacket in mind. I always remind clients to wear clothes they feel comfortable in. Think of something that’s your Sunday best but still feels like you.
On the day of the session, Miss Ellie completely ran the show—her and her crackers, of course! We took a few snack breaks in between, and honestly, that’s the reality and beauty of family sessions with toddlers. There’s not much you need to coach; just let them be themselves, and the magic happens. Ellie’s infectious joy filled the entire session. We caught some sweet cuddle moments between snacks, and the connection between her and her parents was so evident.
There were belly laughs, playful moments, and plenty of those sweet, genuine smiles that make family sessions like this so special. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day. St. Joseph truly has some hidden gems, and I’m always so grateful to photograph at Homeplace Fields! t’s just such a beautiful spot with some beautiful history as well!
