Newborn twins photography always brings a few extra variables into the mix, and I mean that in the best way possible. Two babies. Two personalities. Twice the unpredictability, but also… twice the love.
This recent session with twin girls was a perfect example. From the moment they arrived, it was made clear: these two were not alike. Not in looks, and not in temperament. One was content to snooze through most of the session, and the other had absolutely no interest in sleeping. She made sure she didn’t miss a beat, but thankfully enough, she was still pretty chill in her own very alert way.
Their mom had one big request: the froggy pose. Now, if you’re familiar with newborn photography, you know that froggy is tricky with one baby. With twins… it’s usually a long shot. But my assistant and I gave it a try just for Mom. Slowly, safely, and with lots of patience, we got it. Not just once, but better than we could’ve planned! It’s always a team effort, but in this case, these girls really did rise to the occasion.
That’s the beauty of photographing twins. You never quite know how it’s going to go, and the goal isn’t perfection—it’s connection. It’s about capturing who they are right now, whether that’s matching headbands and sleepy, womb-like snuggles or a little sass and a little bit of side-eye.
Newborn twins photography isn’t about just the twins together, but also about honoring individuality while showing the undeniable bond that only twins share. The contrast between them and who they are on their own, the closeness between them—that’s the story worth telling.
And if you’re wondering whether a twin newborn session is “doable”? The answer is yes. With the right prep, experienced hands, and a flexible mindset, it’s absolutely possible. And to be honest, they’re some of my favorite sessions.
