As a photographer, these are some of my favorite nights—you know, the ones where everything just falls into place, exactly the way it’s supposed to happen. I was so excited when we rolled up to this location. Literally, I looked out the window and thought, yep, that’s it. The perfect spot for family photos with cows, the rolling hills, the tree line—it all came together so perfectly.

If you’re from the Midwest, you know how stunning our sunsets are, and this night was nothing short of magical. Literally, the clouds looked like they had been painted, and the sky melted seamlessly into the setting sun. We got out and started shooting right away, and the cows didn’t even mind us being nearby.

What made this session extra special was baby brother’s constant desire to be close to his big brother. He couldn’t stop reaching for him, grabbing him, wanting to play and hug him—it was absolutely adorable. Honestly, that’s my favorite part of sessions, watching those little moments unfold.

I know as parents, you see these moments all the time, and they might feel nuanced. But I have a feeling that down the road, when you look back, you’ll smile and say, “Oh my gosh, that was such a moment, and now I miss it.” Whether it’s one of those moments that frustrated you at the time because of their rough banter, or one that made you smile like it did for me on that evening, it will always bring you back.

Seeing the kids get comfortable and watching their joy in this beautiful environment brought everything together so perfectly. I think it really shows in these photos that we were able to capture together—even if I did step in a cow patty and get it on my camera!

It was 110% worth it for this beautiful session, and I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I did!
